Introducing our newest program to the foundation!
Believe Bags are to provide comfort to newly diagnosed childhood cancer patients and their family within a few days of diagnosis at participating hospitals. When Gabby was transferred to the Oncology floor of the hospital, it was a very scary experience. We were now officially on “the cancer floor” of the hospital. Our first social workers arrived to talk to our family and presented us with a tote bag to break the ice. The items in this bag did not bring comfort to my daughter or our family. They actually induced more stress in a stressful situation.
The idea of creating a Believe Bag came through discussions with other childhood cancer parents as well as social workers at local hospitals. Most hospitals do not have comfort items to provide to their patients. The social workers we are working with are very excited to have something they can provide to the families that will bring some comfort in an uncomfortable position. The first hospital we will be supporting through this program is St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.
Our Believe Bag is a drawstring bag to hold all of their items, a notebook with pen for taking notes during their child’s journey, fun socks from Pals Socks to keep their feet warm and fun, a fleece blanket to snuggle up with, an animal to cuddle up with, and cafeteria vouchers. For a donation of $50 you are able to provide a Believe Bag to a child that is fighting cancer. To make a donation to this program click here.
